Instant messaging the next frontier
A Corporate Chaperon for Instant Messaging. Although it
isn't as widespread as email, corporate instant messaging
(IM) usage is real. "Right now, IM is present in
about 90 percent of corporations," says Michael Osterman,
principal analyst for Black Diamond, WA-based Osterman
Research. What is most alarming, adds Osterman is that
"most IM use is outside the view of IT management."

AltaVista Launches Toolbar
AltaVista, a business of Overture Services, Inc. and a provider
of search services and technology, has introduced the AltaVista
Toolbar, a free search tool.
The toolbar is available for immediate download from the Altavista
site. Once downloaded the AltaVista Toolbar is displayed at
the top of the Web browser. Users can personalize the toolbar's
layout and functionality by adding or removing optional features.
The new toolbar is designed to save time and enhance a user's
search experience through features that include the ability
to translate complete Web pages or individual phrases into ten
languages. Users can check weather, area codes, ZIP codes, time
zones, exchange rates, and more through the toolbar. The toolbar
allows users to search Web pages as well as a collection of
image, video, and audio files. AltaVista Toolbar features and
options include: world wide web, news, and multimedia search;
shortcuts lookup; last search; translation; highlight; and popup
blocker. |
